Motion Health Exercise Physiologists (AEP’s) are university qualified allied health professionals who have completed postgraduate studies in Clinical Exercise Physiology and are accredited through Exercise Sport Science Australia.

WHERE DO I START WITH EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY?
If you would like to start or continue exercising, whether it is for fitness and health or to manage a chronic condition or injury, then Exercise Physiology might be for you. The first step is to do an Initial Assessment.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY INITIAL ASSESSMENT?
An Exercise Physiology Initial Assessment at Motion Health will include a thorough discussion about your medical history, previous and current injuries, health conditions and medications. We will also conduct a postural and movement assessment. This information is important in order to prescribe an exercise program that is tailored to you. Together with your AEP you will discuss your goals and develop a progressive treatment plan to best achieve those goals. Based on this assessment; you will then begin a structured/tailored exercise program in either a 1:1 or group setting, depending on your needs.
These will be reassessed regularly and adjusted to ensure that your program reflects your progress. If required, a structured home exercise program can be developed to ensure that you are getting the most out of your exercise physiology sessions.
Most importantly, you will walk away with a clear management plan for your condition and goals and feel supported by the fact that your exercise is being taken care of by a professional. Your exercise physiologist will also collaborate with any other treating practitioners to ensure each member of your healthcare team is on the same page.
All sessions delivered by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist are eligible for private health rebates, depending on the terms and conditions of your coverage with your private health provider.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A 1:1 EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY SESSION?
1:1 sessions with an Exercise Physiologist will involve an exercise program that has been tailored for you based on the outcomes of your Initial Assessment and goals.
This session allows for dedicated time with an Exercise Physiologist who will guide you and help you to develop good exercise technique and understanding. Sessions are available for 30 or 55 minutes meaning that there is always time to fit it into your schedule.
ARE GROUP SESSIONS AVAILABLE?
Our group sessions are offered as 55 minute ‘Body Clinics’. Each ‘Body Clinic’ has a maximum of 3 clients per Exercise Physiologist to ensure that you are receiving a completely tailored, supervised and safe program to meet your needs.
BOOKING AN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY INITIAL ASSESSMENT OR CONSULTATION
Bookings for all exercise physiology services can be made by clicking ‘Book Online’ and following the prompts. You can also call us on (03) 9825 2697 or visit us at Motion Health, Toorak during reception hours – 7.30am until 7.30pmpm Monday to Friday, and 8am until 12pm Saturday.
You may be eligible for a private health rebate depending on your provider. After your initial assessment, various payment options and packages are available to meet your needs.
We accept referrals for Exercise Physiology from your GP or specialist. We can also accept Medicare, DVA, TAC and WorkCover patients. We offer bulk billing for patients who have a Team Care Arrangement plan from their Doctor. Self-referrals are also welcome.
CHRONIC DISEASE MANAGEMENT & EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY
A chronic medical condition is one that has been (or is likely to be) present for six months or longer. Through the Chronic Disease Management Plan (formerly EPC) you are entitled to up to 5 sessions partly funded by Medicare with a valid referral from your GP.
During these sessions our Exercise Physiologists will complete an Initial Assessment and develop an exercise and/or management plan with you. This plan will be specially tailored for you and may include 1:1 exercise sessions, home exercises and reviews. A large focus of the session will be to equip you to manage independently and address any concerns or barriers you may have toward exercise.
STRENGTH AND BALANCE GROUP
The Strength and Balance group is an Exercise Physiologist lead group for those who want to improve their balance, reduce their risk of falls or even just increase their exercise frequency. This group is ideal for older adults who have been recommended to begin some exercise.
If you are new to Motion Health an assessment will be conducted to go through relevant medical history, test basic strength and balance outcomes and determine if this group is the most suitable program for you.
The 45 minute group includes a light warm up, upper and lower body strengthening exercises along with some stationary, dynamic and more complex balance exercises.
TYPE 2 DIABETES MANAGEMENT
The Motion Health Type 2 Diabetes 8-week program is designed to provide education, exercise and develop habits that will help you successfully manage your condition. This program is subsidised by Medicare with a referral from your GP.
Our program begins with a 1:1 Initial Assessment, followed by 8 weekly sessions including both education and individually tailored exercise.
OUR DIABETES PROGRAM AIMS TO ASSIST BY:
- Stabilising your blood glucose levels
- Improving your activity levels
- Reducing your waist girth
- Reducing your blood pressure
- Improving nutritional habits
